We walk for miles along the beaches where the southern right whales winter for mating, calving, and nursing.  It is a deep bay with gentle waters making it ideal for them to nurse and teach their babies how to live. In Argentina, the southern right whale was declared a “National Natural Monument” in 1984, becoming the first cetacean to achieve this protection. 

 Patricia says they are recovering in population and she has seen more and more appearing here in Puerto Madryn. Cecilia says sometimes she can hear them breathing through the open window from her bed at night…the sound of peace….-A
