Vagabond Hearts

woke up this morning….

More sights in Punta del Este

Sunny enough for a bike ride in the neighborhoods.  We enjoyed smelling the scent of the giant eucalyptus trees and ocean pines.  Came upon this cool hotel and walked around the grounds.

Then on to a unique gallery/hotel.  The white structure is designed with the idea of birds who build homes in the beach side cliffs.  The oceanside gallery displays the art of Carlos Paez Vilaro.  He was quite prolific.  Studied with Picasso. The gallery has several levels of decks for panoramic views of the ocean.

Another interesting fact is his son, Carlos Paez Rodriguez survived 72 days in the Andes after an airplane crash in 1972 with his entire rugby team.  Only 16 members survived. The survivors story was featured in the 1993 film Alive.  I read the book years ago and found the exhibit in the gallery very touching. -A
