The first part of our trip we will travel with Mary, Dick’s wonderful biological daughter, and now our very good friend. We met as we approached passport clearance in the airport. Exciting reunion as we enter Iceland for the first time. We proceed to our rental flat in Reykjavik, a forty minute drive.

Our flat was owned by Hjortur who met us and showed us around and left his keys for us. He was very friendly and cordial.
Since we landed at 6:30 a.m. we found a bakery on the way to the flat and purchased some delicious savory breads and had our breakfast around the big wooden dining table. After breakfast we set our alarm for a two hour rest before embarking on our city tour.

Followed the beautiful windy seashore and visited the marina.

And downtown…

interesting sculpture throughout the city….

The restaurant we had dinner in served minke whale and horse steak…one down the road served puffin. We had a nice dinner without trying those items.
Then on to the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal pool that is very large, steamy, and wonderfully warm. There is a walk up mud and/or algae mask bar. There is also a walk up beverage bar. We LOVED every minute of the lagoon. Oh, and on the trail from the parking lot to the pools we saw the Northern Lights! Perfect day!
