Vagabond Hearts

woke up this morning….

Rijksmuseum aka Rijks (rhymes with bikes)

Welcome to a visit to the Rijks, the Dutch National museum dedicated to the arts and history of Amsterdam!

Approaching the Rijks you can see how large it is. We came to see the 2nd floor and had lunch in the cafe. Both were excellent!

Here are a few photos I took:

PEACHES!

Mary, Joseph, and Jesus carved in wood

Bacchus surrounded by cherubs

Rembrandt was one of these important dudes in Amsterdam..

He painted “Night Watch”

Oh, oh…a full body scan is in process for this painting..This informative docent showed me some of the results..things Rembrandt painted in and removed, some of the parts that are damaged and need repair. This is the Rijk Research Library containing thousands of titles scholars can use to find important information.

And onward to a few more classic paintings. This one is “The Milkmaid” by Johannes Vermeer painted in 1658. And “The Threatened Swan” painted by Jan Asselijn in 1650. The dog in the left bottom corner is trying to get her eggs..she fights back. She even poops in the process (look on the ground under her!) BTW…this is not your normal art museum tour…That’s enough for today…time to head back.

Ice skating rink next to the Rijk.

Thanks for coming along!
