“Vagabond Hearts” begins another journey…to look for America…
We woke up before dawn to catch our flight. Our “Eastside for Hire” driver met us right on time at 5:00 am. I mentioned how the chill of the morning felt like autumn. He shared that it was like the desert in Africa. He was from Somalia. “By 10:00 am it was HOT after a cold, cold night.” I loved imagining that! He said he was on his second Prius after the first one hit 300,000 miles! We plan to drive just over 2800 miles from Long Island, NY to Seattle. We laughed together about this. So began our journey to look for America!
En route to New York I was sitting next to a beautiful 4 month old baby girl named Michla and her Mommy, Sarah. So young, I asked if she was adjusted to her newborn and her mommy role and she matter of factly told me she had FIVE more children under the age of 11 at home in Spokane! I was mildly shocked. She later told me she was from a family of 11 children and was meeting them all in Brooklyn to surprise her parent’s for their 45th wedding anniversary. Tight knit..
We landed at JFK. Took a couple of trains and a cab to our final destination, Centerport. We will spend the night before picking up the RV to drive back to Seattle.

When Dick booked our hotel he located a little trail through the woods on Google Earth to this fantastic restaurant, the Millstone Pond. After checking in and freshening up we embarked upon the trail. We enjoyed a gorgeous sunset over the water, a sapphire gin martini, and a delicious dinner.
