4 Presidents and 1 Warrior Chief in South Dakota

Finally!  South Dakota is wearing brilliant fall colors!  We have been a week or two early in every region up until now.

My mom, Mika, said I HAVE to see Mount Rushmore in the night AND  in the daylight!      So, okay Mom!  You are so right!

And then on to Crazy Horse to witness a dream coming to life.  The work on this monument began in 1948.   It takes no public money but uses entry, gift shop revenue, and private donations to fund the work.  This is a painting of Henry Standing Bear, a Lakota Elder, who commissioned Korczak Ziolkoski to create this project.

“My fellow chiefs and I would like the white man to know that the red man has great heroes, too.”

There is a vast collection of Native American arts and artifacts assembled here and a Native American College.   This place is fascinating!

Let’s continue westward to Wyoming!

  1. Glad to see you are making progress! What an interesting journey you are having. Your weather in
South Dakota looks beautiful with that blue, blue sky! And yes, your mother was right, I love the picture of Mount Rushmore at night.
