Vagabond Hearts

woke up this morning….

GR 221

Mallorca is blessed with hundreds of kilometres of walking trails in the stunning Tramuntana mountain range. The GR221, known as the Ruta de Pedra Sec (Dry Stone Route), links several trails to form a potential 8-9 day hike from Port d’Andratx to Pollença.  One section leaves from Biniaraix so we thought we’d try it.

First say hello to the donkeys along the trail.

This ancient road allowed communications and transport between villages along a 135 kilometer path through the mountains.  The dry stone terraces followed us up, up, up…and some of the olive trees at the top were two feet in diameter.  This home has a boulder wall on one whole side of the house.

View of the ocean from the top.

Anybody home?

The trail went straight up and returned straight down.  Worth every step.  Gracias Mallorca!

  1. Love the botanicals! Did you know that the crocus are the variety from which saffron is harvested?!?
