Vagabond Hearts

woke up this morning….

On to Fujinomiya

We wanted to visit Mt.Fuji. I had read in a blog by “The Invisible Tourist” that Fujinomiya is a secret gem without the crowds of Hakone.

Riding the Narita Express to Tokyo Station we enjoyed the rice fields in the countryside.

Up early!

In Tokyo station we were hit by the rush of humanity going in a million directions. It was just enough before finding our escape.

Before boarding the Shinkansen we bought “Eki bentos”(translated “station lunches”) for the train ride. What a crazy store we found ourselves in with such a wide variety! These were all special foods from Tokyo. Each city specializes in their special foods which can be found in “eki bentos” purchased at respective stations.

At last! My bento was worth the battle..

Getting there seemed simple and we did get there even after taking a local train to a town, sitting on the train when unbeknownst to us it reversed direction and took us back one stop. Just like a board game! So we found the right train and continued on.

A bluebird day to see Mount Fuji. We are very lucky!
Walking to our hotel we discover there is a festival in town. (More on that later.) Fishermen and families enjoying the riverside!

Our room here is incredible.

And it’s right next to the
The Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha, a Shintō shrine, grounds, and garden where the festival activities take place. Here’s a hint of what’s in store…
